Munich Martkthalle Tour in English (20 May 2026)

“Munich City Wholesale Market:” More than 100 years old with over 2000 employees, the 310,000m2 Wholesale Market of Munich can be only visited with an official guide. MIWC will have a private tour in English of the market halls, where goods from all over the world are sold exclusively to merchants. With its large selection of regional and exotic foods, the Großmarkthalle München has been one of the largest in all of Europe since 1912. Although it is called the belly of Munich, traders from Tyrol to Aschaffenburg also shop here early in the mornings - from small fruit traders to large delicatessens such as Dallmayr. The Markthalle supplies the region of 5 million people and delivers to almost every European country. Registrations start Sunday, March 22!

When minimum limit is not reached, this event will be opened to family and friends by May 1st.

Welcome to the Climate Café, a new event for the club. A climate café is a hospitable, empathetic space where anyone’s fears and uncertainties about our climate crisis can be safely expressed.

Everyone is warmly invited to join, come with an open heart and mind to connect, share ideas, and explore hopeful conversations about climate and sustainability in a relaxed, green setting (whenever possible)! Curious? Then join our first meeting at a little cosy organic café in the middle of Munich, try a delicious vegan cake or vegetarian snack.

Evening English Book Club

Welcome to the Evening Book Group! We meet one evening a month from 19:00 - 21:00 to discuss a book we have previously chosen that meets our criteria of relating to “cross-cultural” topics. That is a wide definition that encompasses national cultures, caste, gender, lifestyle or anything else the group accepts as exploring the cultural aspects of a particular group. We will decide each month’s book at the meeting in the preceding month.

We will meet at members' homes on a rotating basis. There will be a limit of 10 participants each month to allow for better discussion and so that more members will have a chance to host in their homes.

We will also meet on Zoom

Middle Walk along the Isar

Our walk will last about 1.5 hours , and afterward, you’re warmly invited to join us for lunch at Alter Wirt, a charming restaurant. If the weather allows, we can enjoy their lovely beer garden.

To confirm if the walk is taking place, please check the Sunday before the scheduled date, as cancellations may occur.

The meeting point, time and distance will stay the same.

Please note: the U3 line between Sendlinger Tor and Implerstr. is closed for renovation. Check the public transport app or website for alternate routes.

Tour of the 1300 year old city of Freising and the cathedral (09 Jun 2026)

Join me on a guided tour of the 1300 year old city of Freising and the cathedral! We discover the winding streets of Freising's town and learn interesting facts about the special features of the oldest city on the Isar between the magnificent facades, the town hall, the parish church of St. George and the former canons' houses. Marvel at the almost 4,000-year history of the Domberg and hear interesting facts about the development of the former prince-bishop's residence and the Baroque interior of the cathedral by the Asam brothers. Admire images of the Corbinian legend and the magnificent altarpiece by Peter Paul Rubens.

Note Cost: total cost is €145, it will be between €10 and €15 - depending on the group size. Sabi will let you know beforehand. If less than 10 people register, Sabi may need to charge more.

This is a Social Group event; friends and family welcome!

Duration: 120 minutes, Time 10:30 - meetup 10:15 at the tourist info at Freising Marienplatz.

Afterwards, Sabi will organise a restaurant to have lunch.

The Arcis Saxophone Quartet, named after Munich's iconic Arcis Street, has emerged as one of the most vibrant and active classical ensembles globally. Embodying a spirit of experimentation, artistry, and boundlesscuriosity, the quartet fearlessly explores new musical territories. An elaborate dramaturgy, sound, and light design, as well as captivating introductions, are as much a part of the concert experience for the four multi-talented musicians as their energetic interpretations, finely balanced arrangements, and commissioned compositions from all over the world, tailored to their style. For the Arcis Saxophone Quartet, music is an endless playground, and they are as diverse as no other group. Only one thing remains always constant: their distinctive sound.

In the presentation, they will play some music pieces and tell you a bit about them and about their mission and projects (arcis as a brand, the Verein, arcis collective (with dance), education etc).

Tour of Munich’s Drainage Tunnels & Canals (11 Jun 2026)

Join us on a tour of Munich’s drainage tunnels & canals starting at the steps at the corner of Akademie/Türkenstraße. After the tunnels at Akademie, we will then proceed to the rain outlet channel on Ungererstraße at the Nordfriedhof car park (U6, Alte Heide) and the rain overflow basin in Schenkendorfstraße.
In 1811, the construction of the first canals began. In 1885, the municipal sewer network had a length of 25 kilometers. Today, around 2,400 kilometers cross Munich and dispose of the rain & wastewater of around 2 million Munich residents and affiliated neighboring municipalities as well as trade and industry.

Please arrive promptly by 11:45 for an on-time start.
Hiking shoes or trainers with non-slip soles are required as the floors and keep in mind walls can be damp, so dress in layers.

(Open-toed shoes or sandals will be denied entry.) People with weakened immune defenses as well as pregnant women cannot participate in the guided tour. The entrances are not barrier-free.

Long Walk - Oberau (18 Jun 2026)

Join us for a 11km loop walk from Oberau to Kuhflucht waterfall. This should take around 3 hours and includes a steep uphill and downhill path (around 110 hm)

There will be an option to eat together after the hike.

The recommended train leaves Munich HBH platform 27 at 08.28 arriving in Oberau at 09.44 (it’s the Innsbruck train)
Car drivers please meet on the platform of Oberau train station at 09.45.

Join us for an additional monthly Middle Walk - this month we will walk to Stauwehr Oberföhring!

Limit: 15 participants

Meeting point: Tivolistrasse

Public transport: Buses 54, 68 & 154, Tram 16

Time: 10:30am

Distance: 8-9km (easy to moderate)

We will walk from Tivolistrasse to Stauwehr Oberföhring along the Isar. On the way back, we will walk on the other side of the river. Optional lunch afterward.
