Lunar and Other Meteorites as Key Geochemical Archives for Planetary Science

Lunar meteorites and other extraterrestrial materials are unique archives of planetary history. In this talk, I will introduce the major meteorite groups and explain what they can tell us about their parent bodies, including the Moon, Mars, and the asteroid Vesta. I will also highlight lunar and other space missions, and how scientific research in space contributes to our understanding of the Solar System.

Using examples from different meteorites, I will present insights from Raman spectroscopy combined with high-resolution analytical techniques. These methods allow us to identify minerals and trace changes caused by impacts, heating, melting, or interactions with fluids.

By combining mineralogical and chemical information, we can reconstruct processes that shaped these rocks and their parent bodies over billions of years. Such studies also help us interpret data from planetary missions and improve analytical tools for future robotic and human exploration.
